Jesus is the bread of life
John 6: 30--40
30 So they asked him, "What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?
31 Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'[c]"
32 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
34 "Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread."
35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.
37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.
40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

三、What did I learn from the lesson (command, promise, example, blame, and warning)?
1> Clarifying the meaning of Bread of Life
Through the miracle of five loaves and two fishes, Lord Jesus brings out the topic of "food" to discuss with them. At that time, the crowd was concerned about physical food, but Lord Jesus took the opportunity to clarify and explain the meaning of "spiritual food ". They are as follows:
a. The manna that their ancestors ate in the wilderness was not provided by Moses but provided by God, the Father.
b. Manna was not the true bread of life, but was a symbolic bread of life from God. Because whoever comes to the Bread of Life, will never go hungry or thirsty, (v35) and will have eternal life, and shall rise up at the last day. (V39-40) c.(v27、v35) Lord Jesus said: "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. "(v35)
Reflection: Which food is more important to me in my life? Do I usually pursue physical food or do I include spiritual food as well? Lord Jesus said: "I am the bread of life." Do I believe it? Do I understand it? Do I treasure it? Do I pursue it? If so, how do I pursue it?
2>The process of receiving life According to Lord Jesus, we understand that the process of receiving life is as follows:
a.(v36)To see Him: through various media (the Bible, books, preaching, testimonies) to see, to hear, and to know the Lord Jesus (v36)
b.(v36、v36、v40)Believe in Him: To believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept Him as my personal Savior( v36、v40)
c.(v37)Draw near to Him: Have a constant and intimate fellowship with Lord Jesus Christ, in order to establish a close relationship with Him
Reflection: Up to what extent is my relationship with Lord Jesus so far? Do I see Him? Do I believe in Him? Do I draw near to Him? Have I tasted the “Bread of Life”?
3>Guarantee of perfect salvation
(v37)All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
(v39a)This is the will of Him who sent me: I shall lose none of all that he has given me.
Lord Jesus Christ was sent by God to come into the world as a savior. Thus, those who were given to Jesus by the Father will come to Him and whoever comes to Jesus Christ, He will never drive away. Besides, the will of God is that: “Whoever believes in Jesus Christ and accepts Him as their personal savior will not be lost, not even one.” It means that in the end, those who believe will all be saved. This is the “guarantee of perfect salvation” that was given to us by Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus Christ said:”While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by the name You gave me. None has been lost except the ones doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.” (John 17:12)
Reflection: For such a precious promise, do I believe in this? Do I hold on to this precious promise?
4>Example of total submission
“For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me.” (v38)Although the Lord Jesus was the Son of Man, born from Virgin Mary, He is also the Son of God. God sent His one and only Son to come down from heaven and save us. Because He was sent down by Heavenly Father, so during His time in the world, He always acted according to the will of God and not the will of his own. Lord Jesus left us with the example of "total submission".
Reflection: In this emphasis on human rights, humanism and democratic age, I claim that I belong to God and I am willing to serve Him, do I really understand the meaning of “total submission”?
5>Promise of eternal resurrection
For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. (v40)
Jesus spoke the mind of God the Father and showed that His promise is very clear. Not only whoever meets Him and believes in Him shall receive eternal life but also for His sake He will rise from the dead at the last day. The promises of "Eternal Life” and “Resurrection" are very precious.
Reflection: Do I believe in the promises of “Eternal Life” and “Resurrection”? Do I expect and pursue them?
